SPONSOR A CHILD

How it Works

Sponsoring a child at Liberty Christian Academy is $50 a month and helps cover the cost of education, daily meals, school supplies, counseling, transportation and nutritional support.

Each child is assigned two sponsors. This is so the program is more affordable to sponsors and allows each child to receive prayer and encouragement from two people or families.

Updates On Your Child

Once you become a sponsor, you'll receive four updates a year on your child's progress. The first three updates are emails and the last one is a hardcopy sent at the end of the year directly to your home, church or place of business.

Updates include how your student is doing in school and information about their home life, social life, interests and more!

Letter Exchange

Twice a year you can send a letter to your sponsored child with pictures. This is a great time to tell your student a little about you and your family, and to encourage and let them know how you’re praying for them.

After you send your letter, we will translate and read it to your student and take a picture of them with it to send back to you. Details on how to submit letters come in your quarterly updates.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can I send a birthday gift to the child I’m sponsoring?

We have a fun system that allows you to celebrate your sponsored child on their Birthday if you choose. How it works is we send you a list of needs that the child has along with the cost — like a backpack, school supplies or personal hygiene items for example. Then you choose which of the items you’d like to purchase for your sponsored child and we purchase and present to the child and take a picture of them receiving their gift to send back to you. We provide a fun gift for each child that is not a need as well. ❤️

This system ensures that all students are receiving equal treatment and helps us to avoid any favoritism issues. Additionally, sending gifts from the US is costly and we currently do not have an efficient way to get them to Guatemala.

Q. Can I send a Christmas gift to the child I’m sponsoring?

We do not allow Christmas gifts to avoid favoritism issues and creating problems amongst our families and friends in the villages our students live in.

The children are out of school mid-October through mid-January. This means that if they were to receive a Christmas gift, we would have to deliver it to their home in their village. Many of our students live with their cousins and sisters who also attend our school or they are close neighbors. If we delivered a gift to some but not all at Christmas time, it would create issues amongst families. These communities are small and relational.

That is why we focus on Birthdays instead of Christmas because every child gets a gift on their Birthday and they understand that it’s the special day of that child verses a holiday to be celebrated by all.

Q. What if my child is pulled from or stops attending school for some reason?

If the child you sponsor ceases to attend Liberty Christian Academy, we will send you an email to notify you of the situation and present you with the option to sponsor another child in need or cease your monthly donation completely.

Liberty Christian Academy does not hold open registration at the beginning of each year. Instead we focus on finding the most vulnerable girls in our community who normally would not even be attending the local free public school due to their destitute situations at home. Many of our students starting at the young age of 3, under normal conditions, would have to stay home to work making fireworks. Or students as young as 5 would stay home to watch their younger siblings while their parents work.

These are the families we seek out to support, love on and convince that their daughters’ well-being and education is important and that they don’t have to repeat the cycle of poverty and abuse that’s consumed their family for generations.

This means that keeping many of our little girls in school once they are registered is a challenge.

We have to frequently meet with parents and work with them to build relationships and educate on the importance of keeping their daughters in school.

We have seen parents completely opposed to the idea, who didn’t want anything to do with the school, by some miracle, agree to let us enroll their daughters. Then we watch those mothers hearts slowly change to where they are now even volunteering to help at school.

Unfortunately, we can’t win every battle and sometimes parents choose to remove their children from our school.

Q. Can I visit my child in Guatemala?

Yes! We absolutely love it when sponsors come to visit the school and meet the child they sponsor. It is such a wonderful experience for everyone. If you have the opportunity, we definitely encourage you to visit. We will arrange your trip and accommodations. If you’re interested in scheduling a trip to Liberty Christian Academy, just send us an email here childsponsorship@ceibavida.org.

Q. Do the students’ families pay anything for their children to attend Liberty Christian Academy?

Because we desire to be a hand up and not a hand out and because we are working to encourage parents to take responsibility for their child’s well-being, we do charge a very small amount monthly for tuition. It’s the equivalent of a couple dollars a month and doesn’t put a dent in our operational costs. It is simply a means to involve and educate our parents.

Families also have the option of volunteering at school a couple hours a month instead of paying tuition. This is a great way to get mothers on campus, give them community amongst people who support what they are doing by sending their children to school and get them involved in the workshops we offer parents for counseling, group therapy or to learn a skill that will aid in their daily lives.
