Keep Walking

As we read in the 23rd Psalm, we are to keep walking, to press toward the mark, to fight the good fight and stay the course. We need not worry or cower down but are to keep moving while keeping our eyes set on things above.

We are to walk through the valley wearing the full Armor of God, always reminding ourselves we do not walk alone. We have that guarantee in Hebrews 13 that Christ Jesus will never leave us or forsake us. No, brother and sister, we do not walk alone. We are not alone through the valleys nor on the mountaintops.

It is only when we stop and begin to be consumed with worry and doubt that we find ourselves fearful and ineffective for ourselves and others. We were given a shield to quench the fiery darts of the devil, a shield of Faith knowing we are not alone and that our God is far more powerful than our enemy.

Those sandals of the Gospel of Peace will keep our footing sure and prepared for the battles to come. We should wear our Helmet of Salvation with all confidence, knowing we have victory in the end. We must be filled with the Holy Word of God which keeps our loins girded in truth, so that we can resist the devil and then he will flee from us during those attacks.

When the attacks become intense, we can stand boldly wearing the breastplate of Righteousness of our Lord Jesus, understanding this is the impenetrable guard of our heart. As believers we are to be bold and wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

This is how Christ defeated Satan—Jesus used the Word of God, displaying for us the dire need to know, understand, and apply the Holy Word properly.

We can be assured the attacks will come. Satan himself said he roams about seeking whom he may devour; while roaming he fires those darts to weaken the faint of heart and those who do not know and rest in the Word.

As the elect, we have hope and promises from our Father in Heaven that allow us to keep walking through this evil world and to weather the attacks of the adversary in confidence. This does not mean it won’t be difficult, and we will become weary at times, be assured of that, but our strength is not our own.

Christ Jesus said He will fight for us. We must be still and know that He is God, as we are told in Psalm 46:10. We must remember that it is His rod and staff that comforts us; comfort is not found in our own strength. If you have ever watched a movie depicting life and warfare in the dark ages, then you have observed armies with many archers launching great salvos of arrows toward the enemy.

At times we can feel as if Satan is doing the same thing to us. It’s as if the sky darkens from so many of those fiery darts raining toward us. Thankfully we who have been saved by the Grace of God through our Faith in Christ Jesus and His sacrifice for us have hope in the promises of God in His Holy Word.

Sadly for the lost, Satan launches many darts at them also. For many of us saved, it was those barrages of darts that led us to the Cross of Christ, but many others just end up being the devil’s dart board. If we could see the spiritual standings of some, they would appear as spiritual porcupines with the devil’s darts adorning them as if they were pincushions.

Lost people have only one hope and that is that these attacks will bring them to the foot of the Cross in conviction, and if not, then they will rot and suffer in torment for eternity.

As Christians, we should have great compassion for those lost souls without hope. This is why we were given direction to go out and teach them about the saving grace of our living Savior. Sharing the Gospel of Christ is God’s commandment to us; we are to make disciples of the nations.

This is why it is imperative to know and be fluent in the Holy Scriptures—so that we might show those with ears to hear the narrow path to Heaven.

“The Christian grows rich by his losses, he lives by dying, and becomes full by being emptied.”   -Charles Spurgeon
